Legal rights of the LGBTQ community have improved dramatically this year in Asia. Two districts of Tokyo have already started issuing certificates recognizing same-sex partnerships and Taiwan is just one step away from national legislation for same-sex marriage. However, in Hong Kong, the so-called “International City”, the government has barred foreign consulates from issuing marriage certificates to their own citizens, let alone recognizing same-sex relationships for the local people. This documentary will shed some light on the problems and barriers that same-sex couples are facing in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Guy & Henry met in Hong Kong. They travelled to Vancouver in 2011 to get married and relocated to Toronto in 2015. The couple will attend the Q&A session after the screening.
